The mission of the National Society of Black Engineers is "to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community."
In collaboration with the Minority Engineering Recruitment and Retention Program, NSBE motivates its members to join the Supplemental Instruction Program, or SI. SI is a tutoring program for students by students who have passed the class with a B or higher.
Company representatives come specifically for NSBE. Outside of general body meetings, information sessions with companies like Google, IBM, ITW, GE, Navistar, and Turner Construction give NSBE members an advantage in resume building, career preparation, and internship opportunities.
Working with NSBE Jr., our middle and high school extension, we have helped motivate children in these grade levels towards a future in engineering.
UIC has a diverse spectrum of engineering fields that range from Mechanical Engineering to Chemical Engineering. In 2010, the Princeton Review ranked the College of Engineering (COE) in the top 50. The COE offers students with financial need several scholarships to ensure students only have one focus, to do well and succeed. Because the COE is located in the heart of Chicago, recruiters have avidly searched from UIC such as Google, Microsoft, ITW, Navistar, and GE. In addition, because UIC is a research university, the professors have actual hands on training with what they are teaching, so in turn you receive the best education money can afford.
